We are being fully transparent here so that there is no confusing that we are biased. We blind lab tested 4 CBD samples that we sent to the lab Griffin and Griffin Analytical Associates (G2 Analytical) based out of South Carolina.
To prevent any bias I sent Griffin & Griffin Analytical 4 small sealed bags with no brand labels, only what the products are. I felt like this was the best way to get unbiased lab testing done.
I labeled, dated and signed each bag. I then added the information to our spreadsheet to keep a chain of custody.
The 4 samples we sent were Phytologica Full Spectrum Hemp Treats for Dogs, Buddha Beans Coffee Burundi roast, Lagom Balance Earl Grey Tea, and Elixinol Create CBD powder.
Phytologica Full Spectrum Hemp Treats for Dogs
On their container and on their website Phytologica Full Spectrum Hemp Treat for Dogs states that each dog chew has approximately 2mg of CBD. On their website, their own labs state that it’s 2mg of CBD, but there are no other cannabinoids as expected in a Full Spectrum CBD product.
We have mentioned this to them in the past that they need to update their product labels and their website. This is to show full transparency.
Our lab reports show that their labs are accurate to the CBD count. .42 mg per gram multiply by 5 grams weight in each in dog chew is approximately 2.1 mg of CBD. However, there are no other cannabinoids present.
Elixinol Create CBD Powder
Elixinol Create CBD Powder states that its 10 mg of CBD per packet. Our lab reports show that there is only 0.93 mg per gram.
The drink pouch contained 8.6026 grams of powdered drink mix. The measured 0.93 mg CBD per gram of drink mix. This would yield 8.00 mg of CBD. This is about 80% of the labeled claim of 10 mg CBD. Current industry standards are 80-120%.
Buddha Beans Coffee Burundi Roast
Buddha Beans Coffee Burundi roast 12 oz bag on their label states that its 300mg of Broad Spectrum CBD. The test results show that the CBD content is close to accurate.
At .86 mg of CBD per gram calculated at 340 grams is equal to approximately 292.4 mg of total CBD. The lab report show .27mg a gram of THCa, .18mg Delta 9 THC per gram and .18mg per gram of CBC.
We would not consider this as Broad Spectrum since there are detectable levels of Delta 9 THC. The true term is Full Spectrum CBD.
Lagom Balance Earl Grey Tea
Lagom Balance Earl Grey Tea label states 15mg of CBD per teabag. The lab reports show that there are .684mg of CBD, 1.446mg of CBN, .958mg of Delta 9 THC, and 3.534mg of THCa per gram.
The tea bag was measured at 2.2729 grams of tea in one tea bag. The results of 0.68 mg CBD per gram of tea would mean that each tea bag contains 1.55 mg of CBD (almost 10x lower than the 15 mg CBD listed).
After internal discussions, we wonder if the CBD is falling out of the tea bag. We have seen other tea company bags having brown colored dropping at the bottom of their containers.
Is more research needed?
We also discussed how much of the THCa is converted to Delta 9 THC after we brew each tea bag.
This also applies to the CBD coffee. What is the amount of Cannabinoids left over in the water after the coffee is brewed?
With the world finally turning to CBD instead of pain pills we want to be sure that the community is fully educated on how to read a lab report properly and to be aware of the products that they are purchasing.
We are conducting more research to test out our theories and will inform the community once we have the results.
